I have a bone to pick with the Discovery Channel. Why are they treat Pitchmen like an ugly step child? They hooked me into this show during season 1 and now they seem to be airing it in secret.
They are literally airing it in secret and behaving like they are planning an illegal border crossing instead of running a television network. Regardless of ratings, this show is good and it has been airing without a single advertisement anywhere.
I've had to employ some of my most brilliant code breakers to help decipher when and where Pitchmen can be seen. The episodes are terrific and they make for excellent television but the network is showing the series no support. If I was the developer of the show, I would be livid and would never think to pitch to Discovery again.
In a time when networks are craving watchable content, Pitchmen is reality type show anyone who dares to dream can relate to. Anthony Sullivan is a superb lead and he really knows his business. Everyone is interested in a behind the scenes glimpse into the world of As Seen On TV products because we all envision ourselves in the spot of the would be inventor.
The featured products like Cold Fire, Grill Glove and Fridge Locker to name a few, have gone on to be quite successful in the market place despite the lack of support from the Discovery executives. Television is a tricky deal and the opportunity to merge reality TV with product placement is clearly not being recognized by the Discovery brain trust.
Go figure. The networks are starting to the "Jump The Shark" long before their shows do.
